You will then visit Pompeii, one of the most important archaeological site in the world. This ancient Roman town met a premature end in 79 A.D. due to the tragic eruption of volcano Mt Vesuvius that covered everything with ash and rocks, but giving today visitors the possibility to walk down millenia-old streets and visit old houses and temples.
You will reach your next destination, Herculaneum. Allegedly founded by Hercules, this ancient site is one of the few places in the world that can be seen in almost its original conditions, because a deep layer of hot mud buried it deeply, preserving everything beneath. You will find thousands of everyday objects, from price lists outside the shops, to beds, doors and even food.
Please note that since Pompeii and Herculaneum are a popular area for tourists, we strongly recommend being cautious of your belongings and leave valuables on the ship! We would also advise that you bring plenty of water, especially in the summer months, and that you are protected against the hot sun, as there is very little shade inside the sites.

This shared shore excursion will start with a drive by one of the most famous volcanos in Europe, Mt Vesuvius and continue onto the Sorrento Coast, where your driver will stop a couple of times (traffic dependent) to take pictures of the beautiful coastline. You will drive along the coastal road to its furthest point where spectacular views of the entire bay of Naples and the Island of Capri (that was once joined to Sorrento) are revealed as the Amalfi coast road emerges from over the cliff.
Your first stop will be right in the main square of Sorrento from where you can will have around one hour to explore the historical district, the alleyways for souvenir shopping, or just sit at a cafe and enjoy the beauty of the sea. Sorrento is a major shopping centre for locals as well as tourists, with many shops to explore.
After leaving Sorrento, you will be off to the dramatic Amalfi Coast, where we will drive by Positano, through the fishing villages of Praiano, Furore and Conca dei Marini, and continue until finally reaching the busy square of Amalfi (Piazza Flavio Gioia) which is situated on the seafront. Here there is the one and only bus station along the coast and the shopping area lies just behind this. If you would like to steep yourself in Amalfi's history there are some interesting sites to explore. Two of the most spectacular sites are the cathedral and the paper mill museum. Behind the square lies the main shopping street of Amalfi, that terminates at the highest and farthest point of the town. Along the pedestrian street are various bars and cafés, not to mention the many shops selling limoncello, casual clothing, swimwear, gifts, basic groceries, and of course, ceramics.
You will have time for lunch on your own in this area, should you wish, the driver will be happy to advise on local, authentic restaurants in the area.
After lunch, you will go on a relaxing drive uphill along a very narrow road passing several wineries and olive factories which will lead you to Ravello. This rural village is completely unspoilt by tourism, perched on top of the cliff situated above Amalfi and Minori. Ravello is famous for its breath-taking views, natural beauty and ancient monuments which are seen at their very best in the stunning gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. In high season, these gardens are rich in the heady perfume of blooming flowers, flora and the sharp, sweet scent of lemons. Ravello is also denominated THE CITY OF MUSIC, as it was here that Richard Wagner composed his opera Parsifal.

If you prefer to have a day by yourself in Sorrento to explore the area on your own, or even just go down to the beach and have a bite to eat while you sunbath, you can save money without sacrificing comfort by joining us for a semi-private roundtrip transfer from Naples port to Sorrento.
One of our English speaking drivers will greet you outside of the cruise ship terminal holding a sign with the group name on it. He will then escort you to your luxury vehicle where you will enjoy the comfort and convenience of this semi-private transfer with drop-off in Sorrento.
Centrally located in Sorrento, from Piazza Tasso you can easily explore the area on your own by foot or by utilizing the public transportation system. Your driver will share information about the area en route. You will arrive in Sorrento at approximately 8:30 a.m., depending on traffic, and have about 7 hours in the town before your driver will pick you back up at 3:45 the latest from the same location where he dropped you off.
This is a roundtrip transfer only, not a full day tour service so you will not have the driver at your disposal during your time in Sorrento.

You will have time to explore the town, and have the opportunity to visit Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo, or simply enjoy your time there while sipping a coffe in the local piazzetta.
You will then reach Amalfi, one of the most beautiful towns of the Coast.
Shop for handmade Amalfi paper, bottles of local limoncello, and of course ceramics, as you wander around its beautiful maze of streets or visit the striking Cathedral that bears Moorish influences, visible in the arches and decorations.
Your final stop will be uphill Conca dei Marini, where you will visit one of the oldest lemon groves of the area.
Together with a local guide you will learn everything about its golden treasure while grabbing fresh fruits straight from the trees. From lemonades to lemon cakes, up to the world famous Limoncello, there is so much to learn and see! Your guide will then accompany you to the restaurant where he will demonstrate how the Limoncello is made and prepare for you a delicious Aperitivo with this tasty liquor.

You will have time to walk in its alleys where you will find many locally produced crafts displayed in the small shops, such as the "Positano fashion" linen dresses, the handmade sandals, reaching the seafront where you can take pictures of its wonderful silhouette, made of houses apparently lying one on top of the other.
After a quick drive you will reach Sorrento, the land of Syrens and Lemons.
You will have free time for a walk in the historical center visiting the old streets, churches, limoncello (lemon liquor) factories offering free samples, leather shops and inlaid woodwork shops, or simply enjoy a coffee in the main piazza admiring the stunning panorama.
You will then drive to the countryside in order to reach a family-owned restaurant. After a 30 minute drive you will arrive at our first stop: the majestic volcano Mt Vesuvius! The one responsible for the premature end of Herculaneum. The driver will escort you until the last accessible point by vehicle. You will then trek up Mt. Vesuvius (tickets included) for a short hike (about 20 minutes) to arrive at the crater. The cone stands roughly 4200 feet high, but no matter how far you venture up, you will be able to see the entire Gulf of Naples, from Sorrento to Capo Miseno to Procida and Ischia. The panorama of the Naples Coast is truly spectacular.
We will then continue on to our next stop: a local vineyard located on the slopes of the volcano. You will visit the winery and discover how the local wines are produced in this beautiful area, so dangerously close to a sleeping volcano. You will taste 4 different locally produced wines paired with a simple but tasty lunch, that usually includes some starters that can vary from bruschette, cured meats or vegetables, a main dish which usually includes a type of pasta with the local tomato sauce and either a dessert or a cheese tasting depending on location and availability. After lunch there will be time for our last stop of the day, Herculaneum. Together with a private guide for your group only (tickets as well are included), you will explore this anceint site. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. You will find thousands of everyday objects, from price lists outside the shops, to beds, doors and even food.
